VÖRÖS NEON · BUDAPEST
What the Hell Is Vörös Neon?
In short: a bar downstairs, a cabaret stage upstairs — and an evening that refuses to be boring. Recommended by National Geographic Traveller (UK).
Two floors, one evening
Downstairs: the Bar
On the ground floor you will find Vörös Neon Bar & Pub: draught beer, Guinness, Pilsner Urquell, cocktails, Hungarian drinks, coffee and Neapolitan pizza. Come in without a ticket, before a show, or afterwards for that one last round. Meet the Bar →Upstairs: the Stage
Upstairs, cabaret, drag, variety, burlesque, concerts, playful nights, quizzes and conversations take turns. Some are our own Vörös Neon productions; others are guest shows. What they share: we do not take anything desperately seriously — especially ourselves. Well, one thing: entertaining you. Today and upcoming shows →
What can you do here?
- See a show.
- Drop in for a drink and decide later.
- Sing at karaoke, if you dare.
- Play a quiz as if civilisation depended on your general knowledge.
- See theatre that makes you laugh one minute and gives you a lump in your throat the next.
- Scream with joy because a drag performer dances in heels more gracefully than you — or your wife — ever will.
- Play bingo while singing a seventies disco anthem at the top of your voice.
- Have crisp pizza before the show. Stay for another drink after it.
- Do not worry about looking like you belong here. We are a human-friendly venue.
What language does all this happen in?
Hungarian, definitely. English, very well. Some programmes are entirely in English; plenty of others work for an international audience too. Shows in English → If a programme has no English description, it may still be excellent — you probably just will not understand it without Hungarian. The atmosphere will come through; we simply do not try to sell it to you in tourist English.Do I need a ticket?
Some events are free; others require tickets. Check the individual programme page for the start time, venue, language and ticket link. Shows and tickets →Where are you?
